I am  not  a  step-dad  but  it  still  surprises me  how  and  why  it  appears  to  be

accepted  without  question  that  women  researchers  may  speak  with  authority

merely  on  the  basis  of  their  perceptions  on  men's  affairs! 

The  supposed  problem  between  step-dads  and  sons  is  also  something  that

exists  between  step-moms  and  step-daughters  when  the  step-parents  do  not

get  adequate  support  from  the  biological  parent,  or  whenever  the  biological 

parents  do  not support  each  otehr  in  matters  of  discipline. 

For  instance,  arent  mothers  in  particular  "notorious"  for  telling  their  unruly

children:  "Wait  until  your  dad  gets  here!"  Arent  they  also  notorious  for 

sneaking  behind  the  husband's  back  to  comfort  a  disciplined  brat?  Is  it  any

  wonder  then  when  the  child  exploits  the  division  between  the  parents  to  assert

his will  against  one  or  the  other  of  them?
